First, I look at who I would eliminate. A party or candidate that has something I just can't agree with, regardless of anything else. For example, supporting conversion therapy or outing gay students to their parents.
Then I look at the party platform and individual candidate, based on the current context. For example, I would vote for the party most like to take out the UCP over another party who had policies I liked a bit better.
In the end, I think the things I feel are good for society are also good for me. I want a strong, public healthcare system. I think it benefits society in general, and I think it also benefits me.
