I think the first 3 are required reading. Because the first one explains the Seldon Plan and the creation of The Foundation. Just jumping into the second book might be confusing.
But Foundation and Empire is probably my favourite. The introduction of The Mule who is just such a great character. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the Tv show will portray The Mule.
