Yeah looks like from now on it's better to not wait until the deadline. The Sabres got great returns for Vanek, Miller, and Ott by not waiting until the last minute. Heck Ott basically returned a first rounder, which no trade involving a pending UFA returned today. Looks like from now on you need to make the trade mid-season along with eating a portion of the salary.
