Marchessault has scored 18 and 51 points in his previous seasons. He's on pace this year for 80. The Knights are taking a much bigger gamble on him than the Flames would be with Backlund. If he reverts to a 51 point guy he's Backlund's equal with less defence. For 6 years.
Let's give the Vegas management a couple years before we say they are a better management group than, say, the Canadiens from, say 1953-60, or 1965-79. Or the Wings of the mid-late 90s. Or the Hawks under Bowman.
