I would think it would have to be a lot more complicated for that to happen. They'd need some sort of orientation system to keep the antenna pointed towards Earth, which means thrusters or gyros, a deep space protected computer, solar panels, etc...It would be neat but it seems like this was planned on fairly short notice(the Roadster) and satellites are usually developed over years.
