Yes insanely popular, Linux and other Unix-like OSs run the world; phones embedded systems, all smartphones, most IoT devices, most (if not all) network devices, cars.

Even in the enterprise environment, I would say my experience with clients I work with that 1/3rd of there servers are Linux. But I only work with clients that have 1000+ servers generally so I can't speak to smaller companies.

Linux and Windows also have a somewhat equal market share.

Hypervisors in virtual environments also tend to be Linux or Unix-like systems.

Mac OS X is also a Unix-like OS.
