I'm not sure why Sam Harris is being criticised. He's a staunch atheist that criticises all religions. I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but his arguments are always intelligent. He attacks religion from the perspective of a scientific liberal.
Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins both referred to Sam Harris as a credible educated source and an ally.
