Breakfast: L'Avenue on Mont Royal - SO good but lineups always.

Sandwiches: Cafe Santropol on St-Urbain - awesome back patio and great sandwiches

Bagels: St-Viateur Bagel on Mont Royal - short walk from L'Avenue - wicked bagels

Poutine: La Banquise - 24 hours

Dinner: Au Pied de Cochon on Duluth Avenue - great French food

Smoked Meat: Schwartz's on Saint-Laurent Blvd - no brainer, but sit at the bar for a better experience
Nice list. All Montreal staples.

I'll just add La Paryse (on Ontario just west of St. Denis). Best burgers in town. They make a pretty good milkshake too.

L'Express (on St. Laurent) is another good one if you're looking for bistro style food. It's a bit more expensive though, by Montreal standards at least. About in the same range as Au Pied de Cochon.

For pubs if you're into microbrew check out Dieu du Ciel (on Laurier). Amazing beers that they brew themselves on the premises. Some other good ones are Vices & Versa (Quebec micro brews), St. Bock (Quebec micro brews), Ste. Elisabeth (amazing patio, $4 pints on Fridays until 20:00), Cheval Blanc or Billy Kun (both famous pubs on the Plateau).
