Sorry, don't think a stronger sentence would have dissuaded him regardless. Not to say that he didn't deserve more, just that it didn't matter.
Do you really think the guy would have thought differently if he knew he would get 20 or 30 years instead of
only 10 years. The guy was not rational in the first place. Especially when he intended on killing her and would have faced a harsher penalty if he succeeded.
