Harvey Weinstein, facing rape and other sex charges, posts $1M bail

Harvey Weinstein was released on $1-million US bail in New York City on Friday, after surrendering to police for rape, criminal sex act and other sex charges stemming from encounters with two women.

The former movie producer, 66, agreed to post the cash bail (bond was set at $10 million US or $1 million US in cash), wear an electronic monitor, surrender his passport, and not travel beyond New York and Connecticut. He left the Manhattan courthouse through a back door.

Weinstein didn't enter a plea, which is common at this stage in a criminal case in New York. Weinstein has consistently denied any allegations of nonconsensual sex.

Benjamin Brafman, Weinstein's lawyer, says he believes his client will ultimately be exonerated.
