More of the same from the three teams this weekend...
ASU continues to roll, winning another 2 games against Alaska-Anchorage. The Sun Devils are now on a 7 game winning streak, and have a 12-2-0 record since the start of 2020. Unfortunately, Koumontzis is still out of action, having missed 8 straight games now.

Next weekend is the end of ASU's regular season. They visit Wisconsin, which is not the powerhouse program it once was. After that, they'll have to wait it out to find out if they'll be invited to the NCAA Tournament (they're 11th in the ranking right now, so it looks like a safe bet), and where/who they will be playing.

__________

MSU lost on Friday, 5-1 to their rivals from Michigan. Later today, the two teams meet again at Little Caesars Arena to finish their season series at "The Duel in the D". Nodler and Mattson both played on Friday, but neither had a point. Mattson has now played in 9 straight games, which is the longest he has gone without being scratched in his two years of college hockey.

__________

Denver was on the road this weekend at North Dakota, to face the top-ranked team in the nation. Denver lost both games, 4-1 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday. Pettersen had an assist on their lone goal in Friday's game. He continues to lead the team in both points and assists.

The Pioneers have had an excellent season this year -- except when they face North Dakota and Minnesota-Duluth. They have an overall 17-8-5 record, but they are 0-3-1 against both North Dakota and Minnesota-Duluth. Oddly enough, the only other team they have not defeated this season is ASU, who they lost to and tied in early December in Arizona.

If you remove those three teams from the equation, they're 17-1-2 against everyone else.

The good news is, Denver is solidly in a position to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, and they can likely get to the Frozen Four without playing UND or UMD. The bad news is that they'll almost-certainly have to play at least one of them to win either their Conference or the Frozen Four.

Denver still has 3 weeks left in its regular season. They play three of the bottom teams in the NCHC Conference.
