Just had this happen to me as well!
Have had the PS4 since launch, had 2 controllers this whole time. And both of them died within the same week! Shoulder buttons stopped working, d-pad was iffy at best. Ended up just buying 2 new ones, which is kind of crappy timing, since the PS5 is supposed to be launched by the holiday season.
