Players with risky conditions (Asthma, Diabetes, respiratory illnesses etc) might not play which can deplete rosters.
Though teams do have injuries as well during a season. Most teams have gotten their players back who would have probably missed the playoffs (Flames with a full and healthy d-core, Canucks with Markstrom, Guentzel for instance with the Penguins)
