It is a broken shell of an organization.

Mark Anscombe is out as head coach of the Canadian men’s rugby team.

The New Zealander lasted just over a year in the job — he was hired in March 2016.

Anscombe wasn’t surprised by the decision but did express anger and frustration to The Canadian Press on Thursday.

“At the end of the day, the team is only the product of a system and the system is (broken),” Anscombe said. “And no one’s doing anything to improve it.

“What are we doing in this country to help the athlete? And the answer is absolutely nothing.”

After the team lost in June, he said he figured his term was likely up.

“A head was going to always go in this and I knew then, the day that (call for review) went out, that it was going to be mine. No matter what happened,” he said.
