Funny enough I ran across my old player (a little dusty) in the basement recently. I assume it works, it did 10 years ago when it was last plugged in. I opened the remote, the batteries were crusty but don't appear to have leaked into the remote so it should work too. You can borrow it for free or buy it for a case of beer.
