To me the loft is not completely based on yardage but more on air vs ground travel distance. Lofted wedges are generally used for longer air travel distance shots. I would picture where I would want the ball to land, if it is more land and less air, I might use a 9 iron for a short 10 ft chip short.
I would use my 56* for a 60 yd pitch short if I have to get over hazard to get onto the green. So just picture where you want the ball to land to pick the right club.
