When you break down last night, I don't think anyone is saying the Flames played well. They didn't. But the fact of the matter is that McDavid beat the piss out of the third line and the second defense pairing and not Gaudreau Monahan line.

The third line was 0-8 against the McDavid line and that's only in 4 minutes of action. That's almost hard to do.

Yeah I guess that is the point. If your top line is just "breaking even" it's going to be a long night.
From the Oilers perspective, they battled the Flames top line to a draw, and exploited the weaker lines. Recipe for winning.
