It will be interesting. The problem right now is that both the bad guys and good guys were pretty decimated at the end of the last film. The new order is down to a few ships, and there's no longer a darkside master. The rebellion is down to about one ship, and similarly there's no Jedi master.

They could just have a bunch of time passing between films, and have the new order reestablish themselves. That kind of negates everything that happened in the second film though.

The series up to this point has basically been a "fake out", making the audience thing Snoke, Luke, Captain Phasma the First order, etc... would all play much larger parts in the story than they did. The series didn't really establish that many alternative plot lines. So now they'll have to create and resolve new ones in a single film. Basically, a lot of stuff that should have happened in the conclusion was rushed into the second film.
