Coming from a background back home with Rugby (and to a lesser extent, Soccer) where your number reflects your position, it is jarring to me to see no rhyme or reason to numbers that players wear.
But unless you either lock a number to a position, or a group of numbers to a position (like in NFL for linemen) then why not have a free for all?
