That is, except when it connects to the network on its own overnight. When I charge my phone overnight it's usually disconnected from wifi. Why would connecting to wifi overnight always be a 'no connection' in the morning?

Using the wifi button on the control panel only disconnects from that particular wifi connection for the day, you have to reconnect for it to activate that wifi again. Your issue on it not getting internet access again the next day sounds like it could be a setting in your router, what router are you using?
