I had been talking a bit to my wife about this. Resident Evil and Underworld are considered 'action' movies and not 'superhero' movies, apparently. Female superhero movies have apparently performed abysmally, which is (at least part) of the reason studios take less chance on them than they do on female 'action' movies.
