Consumer watchdog groups weigh in...
Quote:
CALGARY/AM770CHQR - Why is it that as the Canadian dollar continues to hit record highs not seen in decades, we are still paying significantly more for American products sold here?
A consumer watchdog is now calling on Canadians to send a strong message to those who determine the prices and at the same time, save a buck or two.
Thursday morning, the loonie jumped as high as 99.99 cents U.S., and yet when you go to buy anything from an American-made book to a car in Canada, the difference between what Americans pay and we pay is much more evident.
The Consumers Association of Canada's Bruce Cran says it's not the retailers, but the manufacturers and importers that are making a mint by not adjusting the prices accordingly.
Cran says even our own government is ripping us off, noting Canadians are paying $30 more for a Nexus card than Americans.
He's telling people to shop south of the border to get deals.
