Because this isn't a situation where the guy has any hope of ever being "rehabilitated". Murderers, drug users, car thieves...all of them are incarcerated under the theory of protecting society, and helping them find ways to lead productive lives. I agree it doesn't often work out that way, but at least non sexual offenders have a slim shot at turning their lives around.
Pedophiles are sexually attracted to children. You can't "unlearn" a sexual compulsion like that. It isn't like someone making a bad choice and boosting a car, or killing your wife in a fit of rage because she is sleeping around.
Throw in the fact that most of them know exactly what they are doing, that they elaborately plan their abuse ahead of time, that they are preying on the most defenseless members of society, and that their victims will frequently be severely scarred for the rest of their lives...
...well it's just better to sometimes put down a sick animal, than it is to allow them to continue to limp along.
I have zero tolerance for child abusers, and for you to suggest that the state executing them is somehow as bad as their crimes - give your head a shake buddy.
It isn't even close.
