Only a small portion of people afflicted with eating disorders are male. I think the prevalence is something like 10X greater in women for both Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa as compared to men. So if 5/1000 females has anorexia, the prevalence in men to tends to be 5 in 10,000. Gay males tend to be "overrepresented" in any sample of males suffering from eating disorders as well.
Im not sure anyone really knows why. Women tend to suffer from anxiety disorders in general more than men, but Im not sure anyone has pinned down the exact reasons why. There's some argument for socialization and social factors while others point to genetic and biological pre-disposition. Likely it's a mix of the two...
