First person to ever be put on my ignore list. Absolutely brutal.
I was in Bethesda, MD (a suburb of D.C.) on 9/11. We were staying at a friend's house and I remember being half-asleep and hearing the owner of the house tell my dad that a plane had hit the WTC. By the way they were talking I thought it was a Cessna or something small that wasn't a very big deal.
I drifted off to sleep for a little bit and then my dad came and woke me up and told me what had happened. When I got downstairs I was in complete shock.
My biggest memory that day was seeing objects falling off the building, and the newscaster saying something like "There's some kind of debris now coming from the towers." I knew what they were immediately.
The other moment that sticks out in my mind was going out in the backyard, right after the Pentagon had been hit, and seeing military helicopters flying in groups of three over my head. Two of the three in each group were being used as decoys while they escorted politicians out.
I don't think a day goes by where I don't remember the complete sorrow and fear I felt that day.
