I guess the word timeline is vague and probably not the best word I could've used. Your definitely right that there were events previous to 9/11 that affected the "timeline" (which is open to it's own interpretations) but I think in this modern era of terrorism and "the war on terrorism", 9/11 became a convenient starting point.
