While this is undoubtedly true, the Western world suffers from roughly the same problem (though perhaps to a different degree). Propaganda and "spinning" the truth are fairly standard tactics for both politics as well as a country's or culture's own self-preservation of identity.
This is nothing more than the same surprisingly effective strategy being employed yet again.
