Minnesota Vikings
The Good: The defense is this team's strength, how long has it been since that was true? With the explosive defensive line, anchored by Kevin and Pat Williams, we should be strong against the run. And with Robinson, Udeze, Scott and James rotating at the ends, we should be able to get pressure on the QB. The secondary is the obvious strength with Winfield and Sharper as the anchors there. We have too much depth at safety, and someone will be released this weekend between Doss, Williams and Blue….but with Smith the starter at safety, we have the depth we need. Cedric Griffin is the wild card back there, people will pick on him, so if he steps up we will be alright. The rookie Macaulay will be the Nickel back, and he's impressed in training camp.
The offensive line is an obvious strength (well at least half of it), with the left side being as solid as it get's in the NFL. McKinnie and Hutchinson will be studs on that side, with the rest of the line being suitable. Birk seems to have lost a step but is a great leader….and on the right side; it's anyone's guess as to who will start there, will probably end up being Cook and Herrera, but again, who knows?
Anddd running back depth…with Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson, we have two running backs who are both capable of special things. Chester proved himself last year in carrying the load, so I expect him to start off strong, to show the coaches he deserves to get the load of carries. AP gives us a nice option to catch out of the backfield or to line up in 2 man backfield with Taylor. I'm excited to see what AP does for this, otherwise, anemic offense.
The Bad: The anemic offense. This could potentially be the worst offense in the league, passing wise. Tarvaris Jackson will be completely lost out there for at least half the season. While people are saying big things about him, he needs time to mature. Bringing in Holcomb will help with that veteran presence behind him. The WR's are all unproven….ugh….such a disgusting set of WRs. Williamson is a bust, until he shows he can actually CATCH the ball, he had his eyes checked out and has been working hard in the off-season, so here's hoping. Bobby Wade is our BIG FREE AGENT PICKUP…god…he can do well in the slot I guess. I have high hopes for Sidney Rice….big frame, smart kid.
The VERY Bad: The Special Teams…god it's been brutal during the preseason. Hopefully it get's better.
Sorry for the long winded post. I'm looking forward to this season!!
