I have twice been to Hawaii.

The first time we stayed 11 nights on Maui and 2 nights in Waikiki.

The most recent trip we stayed 2 nights in Waikiki, then 7 nights on Kaui.

Kaui was awesome. Very peaceful, lost of stuff to see and do. Though if you are going for the nightlife then Kaui may not be the place to go. Most places shut down around 9:00.
