You're right about him being a liability in pass coverage. Especially with the strong TE's and pass catching back's in the NFC east it makes it tough on him. However, while not a significant upgrade over the younger guys, he is an upgrade nonetheless. The Eagles are in win now mode with several of their veterans getting into the twilight of their careers (see Dawkins, several O linemen, McNabb perhaps). With the 'win now' mentality I would have thought that keeping a guy like Trotter around would be a good idea, especially with his leadership and mentoring capabilities.
Really makes me wonder if this is Dawkins' last season.....and that'd be a shame, he's my favorite Eagle probably ever.
