They opened for Metallica a couple years ago, and almost matched them for intensity. Godsmack is a very underrated live band, and really put some power behind their performances.
The knock against them is that they have a formulaic sound, which IMO isn't true. However, to the non-Godsmack hard rock fans, it all sounds the same to them. This is why we've seen Sully put some different sounds into his work the last couple of years, including dual drums, the bongos, and even the harmonica.
