In a strange way, tipping culture actually helps me spend less. When I factor in tipping to the cost of something, I usually don't bother with the purchase. Or I will go somewhere else.

The one thing I do tip on pretty generously and don't mind are haircuts. It just seems like the kind of service that deserves it more and I don't think they make a tonne of money. I don't go anywhere fancy, so a juicy tip on a cheap haircut is still cheaper than what a lot of places charge without tip and the worker is always very appreciative. Like giving a $10 tip on a $25 haircut blows their mind, yet the place in the mall charges $40 for the exact same service not including tip.
