Mental health reasons for maid is a really challanging area and I think it’s reasonable to be cautious. We have a government that does not support health care, lack of access to health care leads people to choose MAID. The other unfortunate option is when mentally ill people want to kill themselves they are often successful without help. So for me redirecting to treatment seems like the correct approach.

Now making a law against advanced directives is just cruel. If I get diagnosed with dementia I am immediately moving to a location which advanced directives. The end of life of memory care patients is tragic. To outlaw a humane solution is cruel.
Fair enough on the dogs, I guess it's more that we have enough compassion to put a dog out of it's suffering, but not to allow a human to make that choice for themselves in a way that isn't traumatic like suicide.

The mental health stuff I get being challenging, which is why I'd prefer it to be sorted out at the highest levels of legislation and courts, not run by this clown show government who won't listen to expert opinions, but follows the whims of christofascists.

And ya, the advanced directive stuff is the worst part. These are laws being created by people who seem to have on idea what the suffering of others is like. What gives them the right to decide how much pain and agony I need to suffer through, demented, unable to do anything. I don't want that, but this governemnt seems to want it for me.
