Ironically, it's a little better now too because it seems smaller.

It's one thing to have a longer conversation, but it's a whole other thing to essentially figure out a complete stranger's opinion on a whole bunch of topics to inform the eventual conversation you end up with. Can the forum be a bubble? Hell yeah it can. it's not without flaws - but the community aspect of it really takes the edge off of it. Not only that, I know it's a few individuals that have these opinions, instead of wondering how much of what I'm reading was put there by an algorithm to somehow affect my opinion for someone else's gain.

Plus, it's local, and during the last civic election I realized that I didn't have much access to local news like I used to. Combine that with the fact that I still recognize a lot of posters from years ago, and I can be fairly certain that I can tell the difference between a restaurant recommendation from Troutman and Jiri. Which is pretty cool.
