Gross took significant steps forward this season, becoming a top player in the NCHC. His pure tools will excite teams: He’s big, fast and skilled. His game has a lot of pace and energy, and he’s fairly competitive, too. Despite the offensive progression he’s shown, I have minor questions on his hockey IQ and how many plays he’ll make at the next level, but he has a legit chance to play in the league.

Gross is considered by many to be the top free agent on the board this year. He had 45 points in his first two college campaigns combined and nearly matched that this season alone. He’s an excellent skater who consistently creates plays at a high pace. Gross generates high-quality chances often and spends a lot of time around the net looking to bag home some rebounds. Gross is physical, smart and always involved, with and without the puck. Many teams have been linked to Gross, but many expect the Calgary Flames, who brought Gross to development camp in the past, to be the frontrunner for the 6-foot-3 forward.

Father works for the Flames

When your father works for an NHL team, there is likely to be a fair amount of hockey memorabilia around the house.

That is definitely the case in the home of St. Cloud State center Tyson Gross. His father, Kevin, is the vice president of partnerships and sales for the Calgary Flames.

"We've got a lot," Gross said of the amount of Flames hockey items in the house. "He grew up being a super fan. I grew up going to all the games. We've got a lot of jerseys, a lot of pictures around the house."
