I have a Bluesky account that I don’t use, never followed anyone, never interacted with a post, never posted myself, etc. Set it up when I got the chance and effectively did nothing with it ever.

95% of what I see is entirely generic. People sharing art. Sports highlights. Pictures of peoples cats and dogs with funny/cute comments. etc. It’s actually extremely heavy on the art side, which seems weird. I also don’t have and don’t care about anyone else’s pets, so don’t care for that. When I search “Calgary Flames” I also get the makeup post, but as I scroll down I see posts about the Kadri trade, the Washington game, the Rangers game, the Senators game, etc. It seems entirely what I would expect searching for that, outside the makeup post being at the top. During my five minute scroll there were 3 posts about Iran, which is the biggest political and international news story going, so not surprising.

I’m not going to make any claims about the platform or the algorithm because of this, as that would be stupid, but perhaps one person’s experience isn’t relevant in determining the value or bias of that platform. I think it’s a terrible and mostly pointless platform, not because I’m farming for some political stuff to be outraged about, but because I really have zero interest in pictures of peoples’ pets or the thing they painted last week.

Then again, I’m smart enough to know that’s entirely on me for giving it zero indication of what I’m actually interested in, and am not the type to act surprised when I click on political posts that enrage me and get served more of the same.
