Was it really a dud though? Or is it that trades now happen the week leading up to deadline and the last 30 minutes before the deadline ends (Or 1.5 hrs in Kadri's case)
If we go back to March 1st the following picks were traded:
First Rounders : 5
Second Rounders: 13
Third Rounders : 9
Fourth Rounders : 5
That's a lot of draft capital that moved. I wouldn't say NHL GM's are cowardly compared to other leagues.
I think it feels dull for because some trades happen the days before, and teams don't trade highly level prospects anymore - just draft capital. So the deals don't feel as big, and most of the actual trade deadline day (Until last hour) nothing is happening as teams wait each other out.
But overall the trading for the week of deadline ends up pretty good - It's just not concentrated when people take the day off work to watch the TV !
