Conroy is smart and I think that is why he didn't mind trading for picks further into the future, as well as drafting out of different leagues (like goalies out of Russia for example), or players off to college.
The Othmann trade helps alleviate a possible upcoming logjam as well.

Just based on averages, its also just very likely that a team thats great now is probably less great in the future. So the Avs pick has a good chance of looking a lot better in '28 than it does now.
On the other hand, Montreal for example is mid-tier team now, but they're looking like a team in the rise, making their future picks less valuable than their current picks.
