I think that this deal is as much part of that philosophy in that they have a number of prospects in the Battaglia age bracket but not a lot that are a couple of years older.
I think the other thing that that this trade means is that the Flames do not think that Stromgren is an NHL player. He would have gotten more time up if they thought he was, and Othmann basically fills the spot that he would have taken.
Also allows them to move on from Coleman in the summer because Othmann should be ready to step in as a third line winger.

That's my only real concern with stockpiling so many prospects and draft picks so close together. There are only so many roster spots available and if you have to play some lower down the roster, you risk developing them into those kinds of players.
Conroy is smart and I think that is why he didn't mind trading for picks further into the future, as well as drafting out of different leagues (like goalies out of Russia for example), or players off to college.
The Othmann trade helps alleviate a possible upcoming logjam as well.
