I think the bigger problem is that no matter what time you hit the highway, there is always someone else on there. You have a much better chance of killing someone going 200km/h rather than 120km/h.
I can see it being hard to resist the temptation to take your car for a rip every once in a while, but scheduled organized time trials is really a bit overboard. As someone mentioned, go rent out race city or just show up for secret streets and have 200 18 year olds oggle your car while you're at it.
