That's exactly it, the Avs don't have the assets required to get the Flames to retain that kind of money over three years. Nothing to do with ownership. Like if the Avs wanted the Flames to retain 25% of that contract and had a prospect like Michael Misa to offer that's a different story. The other thing is the Avs needed a 3rd line C much more than a #2 with how well Nelson has played.
