Your big mistake is assuming the Oilers actually have a plan. McDavid is as good as gone once this turd of a season is finally flushed down the toilet. My bet is they start off just as bad next year and he asks out.

Neither McDavid or Drysaddle is making up for their shortcomings defensively now, and they certainly won't in a year or two once they begin regressing. Once they can no longer outscore the teams problems in the regular season all bets are off. The rules the league has in place now in terms of the draft are going to make it so that the Oilers can't just bank on being absolute garbage again for a decade and finally having two superstars fall into your lap after whiffing on numerous opportunities and being unable to find anyone outside the lottery.

Although I will miss the annual watch the Oilers suffer heartbreaking losses in the cup final traditions that have been formed, it's going to be glorious to watch them descend into pure wasteland status again after 'something special' turned into nothing more than a rancid fart in the wind.
