Exactly.
We all prefer quality over quantity, and the Flames already have a pretty deep pool of prosects - they just need some high end talent.
However, it is important to remember that every draft is different - especially in hockey where there isn't as much depth of talent to draft each year, as in other sports. This year, after the top 10 or so, the draft lacks a lot of high-end talent, but is pretty deep in next-tier talent. In other words, it's a pretty flat pool, making it a great year to have a bunch of picks. Or to put it another way, quantity is valuable this year, after the top 10.
Weegar wasn't going to return a top 10 pick. Full stop. So getting 3 picks in the 35-50 range, plus a C prospect that probably has 2nd round value, is tremendous value, in this environment.
Still plenty of time and plenty of opportunity, this year and next, to acquire high-end quality.
