Similar things happened among the Chinese communities in Canada when China was cracking down on liberties in Hong Kong, and the protest and counter protests that occurred. I was surprised at the number of Chinese immigrants and children of immigrants who were sympathetic to the Chinese regime yet chose to live in Canada.
