Bring On The Games
It's been billed a mini Training Camp, and almost a week in, there's a desire on the part of Flames veterans to get back to live opposition.
Thursday's game against the Sharks will mark Calgary's first game action in 22 days, and after session after session of small area games and special teams work, Flames captain Mikael Backlund figures that San Jose fixture cannot come soon enough.
"It's been a good few days here and it's been fun watching hockey, but now we're all excited to get back to normal NHL schedule and get back into games," Backlund said Monday.
5 Post-Olympic Questions Surrounding the Calgary Flames
The 2026 Winter Olympic Games have come and gone and a return to action is just around the corner for the Calgary Flames and the rest of National Hockey League.
No longer fresh in the mind of Flames fans is that the team is coming off a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers to take the Battle of Alberta season series 3-1-0. Jonathan Huberdeau opened the scoring and the team announced that the 32 year old left winger would miss the remainder of the season due to a persisting hip issue that requires surgery.
With a 23-27-6 record, 52 points has the Flames sitting in 29th place with 24 games to go. While playoffs are out of the question, the team now faces a number of inevitable changes.
Flames trade rumours: Craig Conroy playing ‘the patient game’ on potential trades
The National Hockey League’s trade freeze ended on Sunday evening after the conclusion of the Winter Olympics, and trade chatter has started picking up again – and a good deal of it is related to the Calgary Flames.
Over at TSN, they released their latest edition of their Insider Trading panel on Tuesday afternoon.
To nobody’s great surprise, the Flames were mentioned a bit.
FlamesNation Mailbag: Alright, back to work!
Friends, the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy are now complete. Canada took home 21 medals from the festivities, including silver medals in both men’s and women’s ice hockey. (Yeah, we wish they were gold, too, but consider that Sweden took home zero hockey medals.)
Anyway, the NHL returns to action on Wednesday evening and the Calgary Flames play on Thursday in San Jose. As we prepare for the pros to get going again, let’s check in with the mailbag!
