Before people used to use the person's last name, or say the guy is good. Now everyone tries to sound like an insider and say "The player". Often it goes a little something like this, "Kadri's been playing well. I like the player." Normally it would be "Kadri's been playing well. I like the guy". Friedman and all that started talking in those terms and it spreads to the masses.
