Perseid Meteor Shower.

Did anyone watch the Perseid meteor shower last night? It was pretty great to watch especially as i had never seen a shooting star before.

I live in the suburbs of north London, Uk so seeing watching the stars is hard. When we do a get a clear night, light pollution from such a big city makes only the brightest objects visable.

I read about the event on yahoo yesterday and thought it sounded interesting so at about 10pm last night, me, my brother and my neighbour went into my garden and lied on the grass on a few pillows and gazed skywards so we could see as much of the sky as possible. It was a slightly chilly night so we put on jeans and coats and just got comfortable lying on the hard ground. After about 30 minutes our eyes had adjusted and i could see thousands of stars due to a luckily clear night. We was out there for a 3 or so hours and witnessed about 200 meteors streaking across the sky. Some were tiny lines, overs blazed a trail across the whole sky and i must say it was pretty damn amazing. After you have seen one the fun is kind of over as they all look the same but the feeling of relaxation looking at the stars got us onto conversations about far away galaxies, space travel, alternate dimensions, aliens, government conspiracies, religion, the big bang, black holes and basically everything and nothing. It was a truly remarkable night. I am really into science but i was with 2 guys whose conversations usually emcompass rock music, football and women.

All in all the meteors were amazing but the feeling of relaxation and self awareness about how small we really are in the scale of things was total bliss. If i ever get stressed out i will just spend the night star gazing to make myself calm again and i really recommend it to anyone.

Cheers,

Magic.
