I think that's understandable. You want to know you have a chance.
Another example is Abram Wiebe, who seems to have elevated his level of play since the trade. He has 11 points in 8 games since being traded to the Flames. He had 14 points in 24 games before the trade. He has also been named the NCHC d-man of the week each of the last 3 weeks.
You have to think it makes a difference for a kid too see a path to the NHL ahead of him rather than a path to being buried in the AHL for years as the team that drafted you keeps going out and stocking up on veterans every season.
