If people don't see that McDavid's always been the latter player, they've probably been flattering him more than he deserves.
Today really reflected what you lose in a player like Crosby.

I said it in the other thread.
McDavid needed a Scotty Bowman early in his career to teach him about the other aspects of the game and make him accountable.
Instead we have a player who's game hasn't evolved at all, who plays without the puck like he doesn't care. A player that when it seems like the team needs him to step up he steps back (finals, medal round games this year).
I've said here multiple times that as McDavid gets older he's going to see a probably steeper decline then we thing because his game is predicated on his speed, and if he loses half a step it could effect more then a player like Yzerman who completely evolved his game thanks to Bowman.
