Tumbler Ridge was a coal mining town pretty much on the brink of being shuttered in the late 90's. I remember living in Prince George and hearing how houses were being auctioned off and selling for under 50k at the time when the Quintette mine shut down. They were trying to sell it as a resort like town at the time. It sort of rebounded and there's been a lot of fossils found in that region in recent years which in a way made it more than a mining outpost But remote Northern B.C. is a tough place to live. Sad story and thoughts are with the those impacted by this.
